Reviews: Ricky Martin, Tidal X Concert, Blur, Jason Aldean, Ringo Starr, Fleetwood Mac

Concert scribes give you their takes on Ricky Martin in Atlanta, the Tidal X concert in Brooklyn, Blur in Los Angeles, Jason Aldean in Jacksonville, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band in Montreal and Fleetwood Mac in Sydney, Australia.

Ricky Martin @ Philips Arena in Atlanta Oct. 22 – “Whether singing in English or Spanish – an admirable skill he has perfected – Martin knows how to sell a song. An arched eyebrow, an adorable squint, a sweeping arm gesture – all were in play whether it was during the filled-with-regret ballad ‘Tal Vez’ or the glossy pop-rocker ‘Come with Me.’” – Melissa Ruggieri / Atlanta Journal-Constitution / AJC.com

Tidal X: 1020 Amplified By HTC concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

@ Barclays Center in Brooklyn Oct. 20 – “Jay Z, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, T.I., Usher and more than a dozen other artists all performed severely truncated sets in this concert, which was as much a nonevent as a show featuring several of the most important pop musicians of the 2000s could be.” – Jon Caramanica / The New York Times

Blur @ The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles Oct. 20 – “The band, joined by a small troupe of backing vocalists, horn section and keyboardists, covered the waterfront on their catalog. They started out with the droll and mock-rousing lead single ‘Go Out’ from ‘Magic Whip,’ but then explored the rest of that album’s distinct sort of urban isolation.” – August Brown / Los Angeles Times

Jason Aldean @ Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. Oct. 22 – “His songs are 5 or 6 minutes long and packed with big, crunchy guitar riffs and singalong choruses that are perfect for an arena environment. Despite having a pedal-steel guitar player in his band, Aldean put on one of the hardest-rocking shows Jacksonville’s seen all year, certainly heavier than Luke Bryan’s concert in the same venue last month.” – Tom Szaroleta / The Florida Times-Union / Jacksonville.com

Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band @ St. Denis Theatre in Montreal Oct. 21 – “Solo Starr hits like ‘It Don’t Come Easy,’ ‘Photograph’ and ‘You’re Sixteen’ brought people to their feet as easily as Fab favourites like ‘Yellow Submarine’ (another golden opportunity for a rousing singalong), a jaunty ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ and a rousing ‘Don’t Pass Me By.’” – Bernard Perusse / Montreal Gazette

Fleetwood Mac @ Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia Oct. 22 – “On this greatest hits tour, resumed after bassist John McVie’s treatment for cancer, the beloved rockers sounded perfect and clearly enjoyed embarking on this concert caper again.” – Kathy McCabe / News Corp Australia Network / News.com.au
