Judith Owen’s ‘After Party’ Run
Owen is calling her little jaunt “The After Party Tour” in reference to a special show she put on last month after her gig opening for Bryan Ferry at London’s Royal Albert Hall was nixed. Fans had already taken their seats when it was announced that the Roxy Music frontman was ill and that the evening’s show was canceled.
But Owen wasn’t ready to call it a night. The songstress invited friends and a few members of the audience to her west London home where she and husband Harry Shearer (Spinal Tap’s Derek Smalls) gave an impromptu performance.
Now she wants to recapture that spontaneous vibe on her upcoming tour.
“I want to be able to see and feel the audience,” Owen said. “I want the audience to feel like they’re back in my living room where it’s just me playing my music.”
Last summer Owen released her In The Summertime EP that included her takes on David Dundas’ “Blue Jeans,” Carole King’s “It Might As Well Rain Until September and Seals & Croft’s “Summer Breeze.”
The EP’s title hails from the classic Mungo Jerry song. Mungo’s Ray Dorsett makes a cameo appearance at the end of the video for Owen’s cover.
