Ultra Spreads To Macau, Bali

Though the Asian dance music scene seems to have taken a mortal blow with the last-minute cancellation of the Future Music Festival in Singapore last week, Ultra Worldwide is premiering two new festivals in the region this year, one in Macau and another in Bali.

Ultra Bali will be held at the island’s famous Potato Head Beach Club and W Hotel at the Seminyak Resort on Sept. 25. The lineup has yet to be announced.

Before that, however, the festival’s single-stage incarnation, Road to Ultra, will debut at the 30,000-square-foot Club Cubic in Macau on June 13, following a repeat offering of the Road to Ultra in Thailand on June 12.

Not everybody is thrilled at the announcement.

The Stoney Roads blog pointed out Bali’s “zero drug policy.” Although the Future Music Festival, which was canceled mainly due to drug-related deaths at last year’s edition in Malaysia, was not mentioned, the blog stressed that Ultra Worldwide will surely attract a lot of Australians looking to get high, as that’s what Australians do at dance music festivals.

Such a mix could lead to “plenty of lengthy jail times and, in light of recent events, even executions of Australians.”
