Streaming Doubles In Australia

Revenue from subscription services jumped twofold to A$23 million ($18.2 million) in 2014, according to Australian Recording Industry Association figures.

Income from streaming services went up 111 percent. Growing saw a swing from digital tracks, digital albums, CDs and music DVDs. Digital subscription and free ad-supported models now make up 10 percent of the total market.

These were positive indicators as the Australian recording music market dropped 9.62 percent in value to A$317.8 million ($251.5 million) while unit sales slid by 13.4 percent to 13.7 million.

Aussie acts had a strong 2014. Sixteen local singles and albums topped the ARIA charts,while 36 albums and 18 singles made the year-end Top 100.
