Michael Wekerle purchased the club, according to City News. Wekerle is described as “Mick Jagger meets Warren Buffett,” in his bio as a panelist on the CBC’s “Dragon’s Den” – a Canadian version of ABC’s “Shark Tank.”

Wekerle reportedly intends to keep El Mocambo as a music venue, but wants to give it a complete renovation.

The club will have a 1,200 capacity between two floors, according to the paper, with the second floor holding 700 and the first, 500.

Owners Sam Grosso and Marco Petrucci put El Mocambo up for sale in September.

They’d owned the venue – which has hosted the likes of The Rolling StonesU2, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lou Reed, and the Ramones – since 2012.

A target reopening date or details of the renovation weren’t immediately available.
