Eavis Collects Another Award
It came from the Music Industry Trusts, which had its annual award ceremony at London’s Grosvenor Hotel Nov. 3. After collecting the Virtual Festivals award for his “special contribution to the UK outdoor scene” in 2008,
Eavis told Pollstar that he keeps all his gongs in a garden shed. “It was used as a playroom for the kids when they were growing up, but now I use it to display the awards and so anyone who wants to see them can go and take a look,” he explained.
Given the number of awards he’s picked up since then, which include Pollstar’s International Music Festival Of The Year on five occasions, it can’t be long before the Worthy Farm buildings include a bigger shed.
“I can’t believe that 44 years of semi-controlled chaos has led to me receiving this prestigious award,” he said in his acceptance speech at the Music Industry Trusts.
A number of acts who’ve played Glastonbury paid tribute to Eavis, who started the world-famous event in 1970. They included Coldplay, Damon Albarn, Paul McCartney, and Lily Allen. The Music Industry Trusts Award, now in its 23rd year, has raised more than £4.5 million for Nordoff Robbins and the BRIT Trust.
