Magners’ Nights Become A Regular Feature
The six shows across two weekends were run with Glasgow City Council and Magners Cider. They shifted 11,750 tickets out of a possible 13,000, averaging about 90 percent business per show. Headliners were The Waterboys, Teenage Fanclub, and Squeeze, which all sold out, as well as Steve Earle, Alison Moyet and Capercaillie.
Regular started with a contract to run Magners Summers Nights for three years, but the success of the Glasgow debut means it’s looking at the viability of spreading it to other cities.
Kelvingrove Park and its bandstand were once a popular site for music until it became dilapidated and eventually vandalized.
In April 2012 the Scottish Parliament provided a £245,000 building repair grant for its restoration.
Next year’s Magners Summer Nights are Aug. 6-8 and Aug. 13-15. Mackie says he’s starting to look for the headline acts.
