A Quest for The ‘Funniest Person In The World’

Laugh Factory founder Jamie Masada launched the adventure earlier this month and has already gathered videos from contestants representing 19 countries.  Not only can you vote on your favorites, but Laugh Factory is asking folks to submit their favorite U.S. comedians under 40 for a chance to represent the U.S. in an international comedy showcase.

“Laughter is a universal language,” Masada said. “After all, laughter exists everywhere within the confines of culture and traditions.  Laughter based on observations highlighting the disjuncture between ideals and realities and laughter at the stereotypes – as well as the oddballs – of a culture, have been funny for centuries.”

But contestants won’t exactly jump from videos to global stardom.  There are some steps along the way.  Online voting concludes Aug. 31 with the selection of 10 semifinalists who will receive $1,000 each and a chance to perform at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood in front of a panel of celebrity judges and comedy experts.

Five finalists will be chosen to advance to a final round in Las Vegas in a live competition that will also stream on YouTube.  The winner will be determined by worldwide voting that wraps in October.

In addition to being crowned “Funniest Person In The World,” one lucky contestant will receive $10,000 and the opportunity to appear on a nationwide comedy tour.
