Umbria Starts To Rock
It already has a world-famous annual jazz festival running since 1973, but now Italy’s Umbria region is set to get a new rock festival.
The picturesque valleys of the Massa Martana will host a three-day lineup that includes Peter Hook & The Light, Paul Weller, Basement Jaxx, Kaiser Chiefs, The Courteeners, and The Cribs.
“The idea behind the festival is really an attempt to bridge the gap between Italians’ collective passion for music and art and the type of concert experiences currently available in Italy …. we’re evoking ’60s Italy and Britain for a reason,” said Yashwant Bajaj, chief exec of event organiser Asha Music.
Umbria Rock (Aug. 1-3) is sited among the mountain ranges just outside the ancient town of Massa Martana, one of the classic walled towns of central Italy.
