Industry Noize: Redwood Promoter’s Slander Suit
Rian Carroll’s suit, filed April 15 in San Mateo County Superior Court, alleges slander and negligent interference with contractual relations.
According to Carroll’s attorney, Christopher D’Anjou, the promoter did face charges in 2008 including assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and infliction of injury on a present or former dating partner, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
But D’Anjou noted the promoter was acquitted on those charges, which were based on the false accusations of Carroll’s former girlfriend.
In court documents obtained by the San Jose Mercury News, Carroll says he produced a concert at the Deseo Tequila Lounge in July and made a deal with the owner to do additional shows each month.
However, the bar owner was allegedly approached by Det. Christopher Winn, the suit states, who told him that Carroll “beat the rap, but he pulled a gun to his girlfriend. I don’t think that this is the type of person you want to deal with.”
Carroll didn’t promote any additional shows at the venue. His suit seeks unspecified damages, the San Jose Mercury News said.
