San Francisco’s Treasure Island Festival ‘On Hiatus For Foreseeable Future’
San Francisco’s Treasure Island Music Festival, which took a year off in 2017 and then moved to Oakland for 2018, won’t be happening this year and is on hiatus for the foreseeable future, Bay Area co-promoters Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment announced Monday.
“Bringing the festival back to life last year following the relocation was a massive undertaking, but with the new issues facing the site location, we feel strongly that putting on a festival to the degree to which our fans have come to expect over the past decade is simply not possible,” the co-promoters said in a statement.
Treasure Island took a break in 2017, as it was decided the 2016 edition would be the final incarnation on the namesake San Francisco islet. Organizers said the festival was forced to move to the other side of the island in 2016 because of development and construction at the previous site, forcing the event to take a year off.
2018’s Treasure Island took place Oct. 13-14 at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland, Calif., chosen for its views of the San Francisco Bay and city skylines, with organizers at the time saying they hoped to continue offering a special experience.
The Oakland event wrapped with 23,500 in attendance according to organizers, with Tame Impala A$AP Rocky, Santigold and many others including collabs with Mark Ronson and Diplo.
2016 edition saw stormy weather causing a sea of issues, which prevented several artists from taking the stage, but also saw others – like Oakland’s own Kamaiyah – rise to the occasion.
The announcement is a loss of an influential event but in a difficult market. However, Another Planet and Superfly’s Outside Lands remains strong at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, touching 200,000 as early as 2011 and in recent years up to 210,000.

To our Treasure Island Music Festival family,
It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing today that the 2019 festival will not happen and is on hiatus for the foreseeable future.
Over the past 12 years, TIMF has worked hard to bring music fans an amazing and memorable experience, and we couldn’t be prouder of what our teams created together. Since inception, the event has brought the Bay Area an inclusive festival-going experience filled with a unique and dynamic music lineup of performers from across the globe, while taking place in one of the most beautiful festival des-tinations in the world. Bringing the festival back to life last year following the relocation was a massive undertaking, but with the new issues facing the site location, we feel strongly that putting on a festival to the degree to which our fans have come to expect over the past decade is simp-ly not possible.
We understand that some of our fans may feel upset by this news – don’t worry, you aren’t alone as this has been an extremely tough decision to make for our teams as well af-ter having built this festival up to be the amazing event is it today. But the good news is that there are still countless opportunities to support local musicians and local events! Whether it’s Outside Lands or Noise Pop Festival, or any of the hundreds of concerts both Another Planet Entertain-ment and Noise Pop bring to the greater Bay Area each year, there are still tons of opportunities to support and give back to our amazing community in SF.
With love,
Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment
