Bowery Presents Plots 3,500-Capacity Boston Venue

The Bowery Presents announced plans Wednesday to build a new, 3,500-capacity concert venue in Boston.

The general admission venue will be located at Boston Landing, a mixed-use development in the city’s Allston-Brighton neighborhood. Crews will break ground on April 1 and the venue is set to open in fall 2021.

“We take great pride in the business our team has developed in Boston, and this new venue will be an exciting new addition to the Bowery Boston family,” Bowery Presents partners Jim Glancy and John Moore said in a press release.

The venue will join Bowery Presents’ growing portfolio in Boston, which also includes Royal (1,200 capacity), The Sinclair in Cambridge (525) and Great Scott (220).

“The Bowery Presents has a rich history of developing artists and offering fans great live music experiences from small to large venues,” said Josh Bhatti, Bowery Presents’ Vice President, Boston, in a statement. “We are excited to bring our passion for developing the best venues for artists and fans alike to Boston Landing.”

Upon opening, the yet-to-be-named venue will immediately become the Bowery Presents’ highest-capacity venue in Boston by nearly three times.

It will also assume a fascinating role in the city’s live market generally. The most comparably sized Boston venue is the Wang Theatre, which typically holds between 3,300 and 3,500. Recent shows there include Kacey Musgraves, who sold 3,529 tickets and grossed $157,246, and Bob Weir and Wolf Bros, who sold 5,901 tickets and grossed $412,436 over two nights.

House of Blues Boston and the Orpheum Theatre both hold nearly 1,000 fewer people; with a capacity of about 5,000, Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion holds 1,500 more.

In early 2017, the Bowery Presents announced a partnership with AEG Live. Last month, the affiliates detailed the reopening of legendary Manhattan nightclub Webster Hall this spring.
