CODA partnered with A Greener Festival (AGF) in the UK to come up with a Green Artist Rider. According to the announcement, the new rider was created in response to a growing interest and requests from the agency’s artists.
Coda partner Alex Hardee launched the rider at the Green Events & Innovations Conference, which traditionally kicks off ILMC in London, March 5.
The aim of the initiative is for live music events and tours to reduce single use plastics, source good food with low environmental impact and high social benefit, reduce and balance emissions and eliminate waste.
“The Green Artist Rider is designed to match the needs of the artists with the strong movement for venues and promoters to also reduce waste and instill ethical purchasing choices in to their productions, operations and communication,” the announcement states.
AGF has worked with over 500 festivals, gigs and events globally regarding green actions across various areas including waste, travel, water, food, procurements and social engagement.
“AGF have regularly seen promoter’s ‘green’ actions stop at the dressing room door. We believe this isn’t always the will of the artist nor the failure of the promoter, but simply a lack of communication,” co-founder Claire O’Neill said. “The work with Coda on the Green Artist Rider serves as a bridge between artists, promoters and venues, and one part of the puzzle, helping to change old practices into better new ways.”

The Green Rider is a voluntary opt in service for Coda artists. Existing riders are being adjusted by participating artists where necessary. AGF offers support for promoters and venues seeking to implement requirements from the rider or wishing to take action to make the live music industry greener.

“This is the beginning of the process, as Coda’s Green Artist Rider spurs the conversation between all involved sectors of the live music industry,” the AGF announcement states. “The rider is not a one-way communication but a catalyst for a collaborative creative process.”
