As she prepares to release her new single “Girl” later this afternoon, Grammy-winning country artist Maren Morris announced an expansive 2019 tour.
Girl: The World Tour kicks off its North American stint at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre and concludes that leg May 11 at Detroit’s Fillmore. Along the way, she’ll hit venues including Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium (March 13), Los Angeles’ Wiltern (March 30) and New York’s Brooklyn Steel (May 3).
Later that month, Morris will head overseas for a European tour slated to run through May 31.
In June and July, Morris will play North American festivals including Bonnaroo, before heading down under in August for gigs in Australia and New Zealand.
Opening duties will be split between Cassadee Pope and RaeLynn.
In 2017, Morris embarked on two brief headlining tours to support her 2016 debut album Hero, but Girl: The World Tour is by far her most extensive jaunt as a bill-topper.
But as her star has continued to rise, Morris has been a fixture on the road as opener for multiple major tours. In 2018, she opened for One Directioner Niall Horan’s world tour, which secured a spot on Pollstar‘s Year End Top 100 Worldwide Tours chart with a global gross of $24.7 million.
In 2017, she was among the openers for Sam Hunt’s North American tour, which grossed $22.2 million; in 2016, she performed a similar role on Keith Urban’s North American tour, which grossed $31.6 million.
But that means Morris’ commercial viability for the theaters she’ll be hitting this year is untested. At her October 5, 2017 show at Kalamazoo, Mich.’s Kalamazoo State Theatre – Morris’ most recent North American headlining date for which Pollstar has data – sold 1,473 tickets for a gross of $38,580. Good enough for a sellout, but at a venue half the size of Detroit’s Fillmore, which will host Morris’ return to Michigan as a headliner.
On February 3, 2017, Morris sold 933 tickets at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club for a gross of $16,794; come April, she’ll play the city’s House of Blues, which holds 2,500.
Though Hero earned Morris plenty of accolades — including a CMA Award for New Artist of the Year and a Best Country Solo Performance Grammy for single “My Church” — she achieved ubiquity with “The Middle,” her 2018 single with Zedd and Grey. The single peaked at No. 5 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 and is up for two Grammys, including Record of the Year.
Tickets for Morris’ Girl: The World Tour go on sale beginning January 22 at 10 a.m. ET. See the dates below.
