Joe Perry Cancels Fall Tour Following Hospital Stay

Joe Perry has nixed his fall headline tour so he can continue recovering after being hospitalized with breathing problems earlier this month.

The Aerosmith guitarist felt short of breath following a guest appearance at Billy Joel’s Nov. 10 show at New York’s Madison Square Garden Arena. A statement explained that paramedics gave Perry oxygen backstage and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway. The 68-year-old was then taken to the hospital.

“Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the kind messages I’ve received this week,” Perry posted on Twitter Nov. 20. “I’m home and doing well, but the doctor recommends a bit more downtime before getting out to rock again, so regrettably I had to cancel my upcoming tour dates. Was really looking forward to playing these shows with Brad and Gary and seeing all of you who were planning to come out and support us. We will be back out as soon as possible. Wishing you all happy holidays and looking forward to seeing you in 2019.”

Perry was supporting his latest solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto, which he released via his own label, Roman Records.

His new touring band features Aerosmith bandmate Brad Whitford and Extreme’s Gary Cherone as the lead vocalist.

Perry’s spring tour included a gig at House Of Blues Boston that grossed $64,011 and a show at Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J., that grossed $27,249, according to reports submitted to Pollstar‘s Boxoffice.
