Broadwick Live Unveils New Location For Field Day In London
– Meridian Water in North London
The new site of Field Day Festival
When Field Day returns to London, June 7-8, 2019, it will take place in Meridian Water, Enfield, in the north of the city.
Situated next to Tottenham Marshes at an old gas works, Field Day’s new home is made up of a ten-acre outdoor space with four huge, interlinked warehouses, the largest of which will be the biggest warehouse venue for music in the city, according to the announcement made today by Broadwick Live.
The four distinct warehouses offer four different spaces ranging from 2,300 to 7,500 capacity. “The move will allow us to go later than any other festival in London and present our biggest line-up to date,” the promoter promises.
A new train station will open right next to the site in May 2019, improving the public transport connections taking visitors to the festival site.
The festival’s promoters are working closely with Enfield Council, who are leading a 20-year £6 billion regeneration of the Meridian Water area with the aim of creating a 24-hour neighbourhood, where residents of 10,000 future new homes will enjoy nightlife, music, theatre, cinema and more all year round.
Luke Huxham of Broadwick Live said: “2019 will mark the start of a new chapter for Field Day and a completely new type of festival for London. This new site will allow us to breakdown the restrictions that London festivals are normally faced with and deliver an unrivalled experience.
“It’s hugely exciting to be working with such a pioneering council, who support our ideas and are focused on creating a new cultural hub for London. We can’t wait to unveil more of our plans in the coming weeks.”
Nesil Caliskan of Enfield Council said: “Meridian Water will be a truly vibrant neighbourhood and new destination to enjoy nightlife, music, theatre, cinema and much more, all year round. Bringing the sheds back into use to deliver high quality leisure, arts and cultural facilities and events is part of our drive to bring life and activity into the area and create a new 24-hour London destination.
“It also reflects the Council’s commitment to pursue meanwhile use for some sites on Meridian Water so that we generate income for the Council.”
Bradley Thompson of Broadwick Live Venues said Field Day’s new venue and site were permanent, adding that “there couldn’t be a more important time to focus on and replenish London’s music and nightlife culture.”
He said the new site “truly allows us to break the boundaries on what metropolitan festivals should be and perfectly compliments our other London location and venue the Printworks.”
Field Day was forced to move from Victoria Park, its location for ten years, when AEG signed an exclusive five-year agreement to promote events at the park in 2017.
Field Day moved to Brockwell Park in Brixton, South London, for a one-off edition this year, June 1-2, with a lineup that included Erykah Badu, Loyle Carner, Nao, Lee Fields & The Expressions and many more. Acts that played the festival in the past include Aphex Twin, Patti Smith, Skepta, PJ Harvey and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
