Nicki Minaj will “reevaluate elements of production” and has postponed the North American leg of her tour with Future, which was scheduled to kick off in September.
“Nicki has decided to contribute more time to rehearsal ahead of the tour’s launch to make certain her fans get the absolute best quality show that they deserve,” a statement from Live Nation read.
The North American leg was scheduled to launch Sept. 21 in Baltimore and had more than 20 shows running until Nov. 24 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Those dates will be moved to spring, starting in May, but Future will no longer be joining, with scheduling conflicts blamed. Refunds for the postponed dates are available at point of purchase.
Nicki also addressed the postponements in a video on her Twitter page, in which she said: “Because of Future’s schedule I may have to take another co-headliner, or I may just do it like I did the Pinkprint tour and it wouldn’t be a co-headline tour, I probably would just have 3-4 opening acts.
“This is all happening because I pushed my album back two months and I just finished writing and recording literally hours before the album came out. So now I simply don’t have the time to rehearse and be on the road in time to give you guys the level of a show I need to give. Jamie King and I are working tirelessly to give you guys the best show of my life, and I really apologize, but it will be worth it.”
The “NickiHndrxx” tour now launches Feb. 21 at Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany, and continues for more than a month, wrapping March 28. She said she is also planning on continuing with a run of shows in Australia in January.
Minaj released her fourth major-label album, Queen, Aug. 10, and that project immediately shot her near the top of sales charts. She made lots of headlines with her promotional interviews and weekly “Queen Radio” program, praising her friends and confronting haters.
It had been awhile since Nicki had been on tour, since her last album, The Pinkprint, was released in 2014. Her last headline show reported was at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in 2016, when she sold 7,226 tickets and grossed $257,725.
