The Smashing Pumpkins To Celebrate 30 Years With Star-Studded Extravaganza

Despite all their rage, they are still major rock stars, and The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating 30 years of music in New Jersey in just a few days with some special friends.

The event is Aug. 2 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J., and features Courtney Love, Mark McGrath, Chino Moreno of Deftones, Dave Keuning and Mark Stoermer of

The show is promising a “career-spanning setlist, covers, never before seen production,” and more. Metric will play as the opener.

Billy Corgan is once again a part of the band with James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin and Jeff Schroeder and the four combined forces to record the song “Solara,” which was released this year.

The Pumpkins have a ton of North American dates booked into September, and their last current show is scheduled for Oct. 16 at The SSE Arena, Wembley in London.

Some speculated that Corgan & Co. might be seeing soft ticket sales earlier in the year, and while we don’t have extensive reports from their current tour, we do have a few.

The show at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville July 20 moved 8,918 tickets and grossed $528,680 tickets, which I’m sure everyone on Team TSP is thrilled with. The show at Frank Erwin Center in Austin July 16 moved substantially fewer tickets, with 5,176, but still grossed $475,680 and for a band as road-hardened as The Pumpkins, one can assume some empty seats will not shake their confidence.

Corgan also recently took to Instagram to dispel internet rumors that he was Taylor Swift’s father. In the lengthy, two-post message he goes on to touch on themes of identity, his experiences with abuse, and the existence of Billy Corgan as a construct.
