G-Eazy Cancels Calgary Festival Performance, Reportedly Due To Travel Issues

G-Eazy had to call off a performance at Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary, Alberta July 9, after the Bay Area-grown rapper was reportedly denied entry to Canada at the airport.

Festival organizers issued a statement on the evening of the event that G-Eazy was unable to perform and refunds would be processed at point of purchase, though they would still be throwing a gigantic hip-hop party with a cash giveaway.

TMZ cited sources claiming Canadian customs agents turned G-Eazy away at the border after he flew in for the show. Speculation has ensued over whether the matter was related to an incident in Sweden in which the rapper was reportedly arrested for assault and cocaine possession.

In reference to that previous incident in Sweden, G-Eazy has said on Instagram: “Embarassed & apologetic beyond words about the incident, but above all I’m so fucking grateful they let me go, craziest experience of my life, awful night with a lot of bad luck and some even worse decisions but like I said grateful as fuck to be a free man, back on tour performing for the fans.”

Pollstar reached out to G-Eazy’s representatives for comment on the recent cancellation but hadn’t heard back at press time.

Canadian Border Services Agency told the CBC in an email they couldn’t comment on the specifics of G-Eazy’s case, but that “All people seeking entry to Canada must demonstrate they meet the requirements to enter and/or stay in Canada. Several factors are used in determining admissibility into Canada, including involvement in criminal activity, in human rights violations, in organized crime, security, health or financial reasons.”

G-Eazy is next scheduled to play in Canada Aug.22 at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage as part of the “Endless Summer” tour with Lil Uzi Vert.

Pollstar spoke with G-Eazy’s co-manager Matt Bauerschmidt earlier this year, who talked about the years they had to spend building the rapper’s career, primarily on the road. “For our first two or three tours we literally didn’t bring anything home,” he told Pollstar. “We just put enough to keep gas in the car and would fill the venues out to max production. We always tried to make the live show an important part of it and I think it’s definitely paid off in the long term.”

Organizers had previously said on social media the G-Eazy show sold out within hours of going on sale.

Old Dominion and Jon Pardi will perform tonight as part of the Cowboys Music Festival, which is a series of shows put on at Cowboys nightclub in Calgary during the city’s famous Calgary Stampede, which runs July 5-15. Other performers include Marshmello, Lanco, Steven Tyler, and Kip Moore.
