Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly To Ride Again

Celtic-influenced punk rockers Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly dug their first co-headline outing so much this year that they are adding more shows together in September.

The new dates stretch from Sept. 17 in Edmonton, Alberta to Sept. 29 in Mesa, Ariz. There are dates almost every night during the run, mostly up and down the West Coast. The bands exchange closing duties throughout the tour.

Tickets for the shindig go on sale June 28.

The two bands toured together throughout June, last playing Gilford, N.H.’s Bank of NH Pavilion. The bands played together at AFAS Live in Amsterdam Feb. 10 and Feb. 18 and it was serious business, grossing $610,163 over both nights, and moving 11,972 tickets.

“What a tour this has been…It took many years, but worth the wait, not just for the bands, but the fans as well,” Flogging Molly’s Dave King said of the recent run with Dropkick Murphys. “If there’s an Irish punk rock heaven, then this is it! Touring with the Dropkick Murphys has been a highlight of our touring lives, what a great band, and a great bunch of lads, can’t wait to bring this celebration to the West Coast.”

Dropkick Murphys have mostly just been making Pollstar’s headlines for the group’s touring in the last few years, but they did demand Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker to stop using their music in 2015, saying “We literally hate you.”

The band also had to cancel a show in 2014 after a tour bus struck and killed a pedestrian in Austin. Prior to that, the band raised more than $300,000 for the victims of the Boston Bombings in 2013.

Flogging Molly once again staged its Salty Dog Cruise this year and has been a regular fixture on the road for years. A flagbearer for Irish-American rock, the band staged a “Green 17” tour in the leadup to Saint Patrick’s Day for 10years.
