Russian Police Evacuate Venues In World Cup Host City Over False Bomb Threats

After receiving multiple bomb-threats, which turned out to be unsubstantiated, Russian Police evacuated various bars and restaurants across  the city of Rostov-on-Don.

Local police released a statement, which said the authorities had receives a series of phone calls about explosive planted at various locations in Rostov-on-Don.

“Police forces made all the necessary checks and no dangerous objects were found,” the statement continued.

Currently, all affected venues, including one official FIFA World Cup hotel, are operating normally.

The city houses the 45,000 capacity Rostov Arena, which has already hosted four group stage matches. The next scheduled match will be a playoff match on Monday, July 2. So far, the schedule remains intact.

Police reportedly did not release any information about the background of the threats or who might have issued them, but said the threats had turned out to be false.
