March 23, 2018, Roseanne Barr arrives at the Los Angeles premiere of “Roseanne” in Burbank, Calif.
“What she wrote is antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an agency,” ICM Partners said in a statement provided to Pollstar. “Consequently, we have notified her that we will not represent her. Effective immediately, Roseanne Barr is no longer a client.”
The move came as ABC announced the newly revamped “Roseanne” sitcom was being canceled.
The bizarre tweet was about a former top adviser to Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, considered one of the president’s most influential aides. “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” Barr tweeted, for reasons unknown. Jarrett is African-American.
ABC President Channing Dungey released a statement saying, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
Barr has since apologized and deleted the message, tweeting, “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks.”
Before joining ICM Partners in 2017, Barr had been represented by Gersh.
In recent years Barr has performed at performing arts centers and casinos, with a handful of shows in 2016 and 2015.
