Artist manager and Aspire Music Group co-founder Derrick Lawrence, who formerly represented Drake, was sentenced to eight months in prison April 9 after pleading guilty to three counts of tax evasion.
He failed to file personal tax returns from 2009 to 2011, during which time he made more than $2.2 million, according to the New York Daily News. The publication notes that he still owes roughly $600,000 in taxes.
Drake signed exclusive recording and management contracts with Aspire Music Group and its associated management firm in 2008.
Aspire Music Group has been involved in multiple lawsuits in the past years regarding Drake’s profits, including a suit filed in early 2017 against Cash Money Records, according to Pitchfork
