Musikmesse launched its own festival in 2016. This year, more than 60 concerts will take place in over 30 venues across Frankfurt, including shows by Albert Hammond, Asaf Avidan, Curse, Dionne Warwick, En Vogue, Gino Vanelli and Brian Downey’s Alive And Dangerous.
Both Warwick and Vanelli are playing their only Germany concerts this year at Musikmesse.
The new showcase element will take place at Hotel Maritim right next to the fair grounds. Some of Europe’s music export offices, such as Music:LX, Sound Czech or Hungarian Oncoming Tunes have fielded their most promising newcomers. Luxembourg presents Seed To Tree, Toys, Ed Sun, and Dream Catcher on April 11.
Acts from Eastern Europe, including Carnival Youth, Thom Artway, Jekka and Babé Sila take the stage on April 12. The day after belongs to Dreaming Of Jupiter, Shane Ó Fearghail and Candice Gordon from Ireland, presented by Dublin’s showcase festival youbloom.
The organizers around festival director Wolfgang Weyand believe Musikmesse constitutes “an attractive (and rarely accessible) music industry segment to showcase bands,” increasing their chance of securing endorsements, sponsor deals, etc. In 2017, some 100,000 guests from 144 countries visited Musikmesse and the concurrent entertainment technology fair Prolight + Sound.
Detlef Braun, member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, said: “From classic and jazz, via rock and pop, to electronic sounds, the Musikmesse Festival presents the complete spectrum of music. The four-day, all-embracing musical experience has developed into a component part of the Musikmesse fair and the cultural scene in Frankfurt. For this, we owe a vote of thanks to our many supporters who join forces with us to organize the event – from officials of the City of Frankfurt, via venue operators, to our partners from the culture and music industry.”
