Rory Feek of Joey + Rory Announces New Gigs

Rory Feek, who recorded and performed with his wife as Joey + Rory before Joey succumbed to cervical cancer, has announced a series of shows taking place in the barn on his family farm located in Pottsville, Tenn., less than an hour’s drive south of Nashville.

It seemed like the entire world was hanging on the updates Rory posted on his This Life I Live  blog regarding Joey’s battle with cervical cancer. In 2015, a year when Joey underwent surgery and was receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments, the couple decided to end Joey’s cancer treatments after a new scan showed tumors had returned and the cancer had continued to spread.

Three months later on Feb. 29 Rory posted that Joey “had been asleep for days” and that “her body is shutting down quickly.” 

Joey Feek died March 16, 2016 at the age of 40.

Last year Rory held a press conference saying he would perform in his barn concert hall to raise money for the non-profit Music Health Alliance that him with Joey’s insurance and medical bills.

This week Rory commemorated the two-year anniversary of Joey’s passing with a blog posting and a video.  He also announced new show dates for the barn – April 13-14, May 11-12, June 15-16, July 6-7, Aug. 10-11, Nov. 23-24, 30, Dec. 1 & 7.

The upcoming shows are described as “intimate and inspirational evenings” featuring Rory telling stories and performing songs from his life before meeting Joey, plus “heartwarming moments” with his family as well as experiences he’s undergone since his wife’s passing.

“What Rory does on stage is more like a TED Talk with music, than it is a concert,” Rory’s manager Aaron Carnahan said in a statement.  “Rory’s an unusually gifted storyteller who is able to weave songs, stories and video components seamlessly together in a way that not only entertains and audience, but also profoundly impacts their character and marriages and the way they look at life.”
