Reviews: Steve Martin / Martin Short, The Killers & More
John Davisson – Lil Uzi Vert
Lil Uzi Vert is a repeat performer at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival at Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif., April 23.
This week, for your reading enjoyment we have compiled critical reviews of live performances by Steve Martin / Martin Short in Fort Myers, Fla.; The Killers in Chicago; Lil Uzi Vert in Washington, D.C.; 3 Doors Down in Airway Heights, Wash.; Walk The Moon in Toronto; and Granger Smith in New York.
Steve Martin and Martin Short @ Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Fla., Jan. 18 – “The Two Amigos, dressed in nearly identical black suits, showed us exactly why they’re comedy legends who have progressed well beyond their fame-making starts on SCTV and Saturday Night Live. They had us rolling in the aisles with their Hollywood stories, Short’s goofy antics and celebrity impersonations, Martin’s funny song lyrics and dry wit, and the longtime friends’ obvious joy in making each other laugh.” – Charles Runnells / News-Press
The Killers @ United Center in Chicago, Ill., Jan. 16 – “The band hit on just about every corner of their recorded career over the course of twenty-two songs Tuesday night. Wonderful Wonderful was the subject of the most focus as The Killers performed almost all of it; six of its ten tracks.” – Jim Ryan / Chicago Now
Lil Uzi Vert @ The Anthem in Washington, D.C., Dec. 15 – “Once he did, it was a nonstop audiovisual onslaught. At this type of concert, disorientation is de rigueur, with more bass than the human body knows what to do with, a light show as blinding as the music is deafening, and quick-cutting videos and 3-D graphics: a goth apocalypse of skeletons, hellfire and anime that can keep even the most attention-deficient audience rapt.” – Chris Kelly / The Washington Post
3 Doors Down @
Walk The Moon @ Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, Ontario, Jan. 16 – “I was thoroughly impressed with the diversity of their set list as it felt like they played an even amount of songs from each of their albums, managing to please virtually all of their fans. … One thing I’ve always admired about seeing WTM live is that they tend to change up how they perform the songs live as opposed to how you hear them on the album. Every aspect of their songs tends to sound a lot richer live, as if they’ve found a way to reinvent it.” – Katrina Wong Shue / Live In Limbo
Granger Smith @ Irving Plaza in New York, New York, Jan. 18 – “Overall, Granger Smith put on a high-octane live concert in the heart of New York City. He commanded the stage very well, and gave his Manhattan fans a night of country music to remember. Smith is worth seeing in concert whenever he comes to town.” – Markos Papadatos / Digital Journal
