Berklee College Of Music Announces First Online Master’s Programs
Berklee Online – the world’s largest online music school – is expanding its acclaimed offerings even further by offering its first master’s degree programs.
Since the world renowned Berklee College of Music launched Berklee Online in 2002 it has grown from a selection of award-winning virtual music courses to certificate programs and an undergraduate degree.
Berklee Online, which is now the world’s largest online music school with more than 10,000 students a year, recently announced it will launch its master’s program in September 2018 with a Master of Music in Music Production and Master of Arts in Music Business.
The two master’s options will be made up of 12 courses (36 credits) that can be completed in a year, with each program including a culminating experience such as developing a marketing plan or creating an EP.
Students choosing to pursue a Master of Music in Music Production will study advanced recording, mixing and mastering, as well as vocal production, audio for visual media and business sustainability for independent producers.
The Master of Arts in Music Business will include courses focused on artist management, marketing, licensing, branding and touring, with lessons from industry professionals.
As Berklee Online’s website points out, the benefits of an online degree with the school include tuition and fees that are significantly lower than on-campus alternatives, access to the same world-renowned faculty who teach on Berklee’s campus, and an online community that includes musicians, executives and industry leaders from more than 140 countries.
Faculty in the Master of Music in Music Production will include renowned producers and engineers such as Enrique Gonzalez Müller, Prince Charles Alexander, Sean Slade and Susan Rogers, who have worked with the likes of Prince, Dave Matthews Band, Joe Satriani, Joan Baez, Les Claypool, Radiohead, Hole, Lou Reed and Mary J. Blige.
Industry execs who will be sharing their knowledge with the Masters Of Arts in Music Business program include WeTransfer Vice President and global brand strategy expert Stephen Canfield, SiriusXM director of music licensing Casey Rae, music copyright and intellectual property expert Dr. E. Michael Harrington, and entertainment lawyer John P. Kellogg, Esq.
“This is a chance for students to spend a year doing everything they love and hone their knowledge and skills to advance their career in the music industry,” Berklee Vice President of Online Education Carin Nuernberg said in a statement. “Students will learn from world-renowned faculty in an interactive, collaborative course environment while forging connections with a network of talented industry professionals from around the globe.”
