Electric Factory 50th Anniversary Auction
Huggins & Scott Auctions – Jerry Garcia Signed Guitar
A Fender Stratocaster signed by Jerry Garcia is one of several items auctioned off by Larry Magid.
As Philadelphia’s Electric Factory nears its 50th anniversary, co-owner Larry Magid of Larry Magid Entertainment is auctioning off some memorabilia that represents rock ‘n’ roll history.
Magid helped to open the original Electric Factory in 1968 and became co-owner. Magid landed major acts for the venue in the late ‘60s and ‘70s such as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin up to Allman Brothers and Pink Floyd, among the many. In addition to booking the Spectrum, Tower Theater and Theatre of Living Arts, Magid was also involved with putting on Live Aid 1985 in Philadelphia with Bob Geldof and Bill Graham.
“We were the shamans of a new generation, Magid told the Inquirer. “The music was our message, and the possibilities were dreams that hadn’t manifested themselves but were getting closer day by day.”
Among the items up for grabs Oct. 27 to Nov. 9 via HugginsAnd Scott Auctions were a guitar signed by Jerry Garcia, Electric Factory grand opening poster, saxophone signed by Bill Clinton, tour jackets given to behind-the-scenes VIPS and a piano bench signed by Elton John and Billy Joel, the paper said.
Pollstar’s call to Magid was not returned at press time.
