David Hlubek Of Molly Hatchet Dies

David Hlubek, 66, lead guitarist and co-founding member of Molly Hatchet, died of a heart attack Sept. 3.

Hlubek co-wrote many of the band’s songs including “Flirtin’ With Disaster.”

He was also the lead singer of the band when he helped form it in 1971, but vocalist duties were handed over to Danny Joe Brown when he joined the band three years later (Brown also co-wrote “Flirtin’ With Disaster” and is the lead singer on the song).

Hlubeck left the band in 1987 because of self-admitted substance abuse but went on to play in Hlubek & Friends, Dixie Allstars and Southern Rock Legends, to name a few.

Hlubeck returned to Molly Hatchet in 2005 when it had no original members left. He was an active member when he died.

Hlubek is also credited with several movie soundtracks including “Monster” with Charlize Theron, “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and “Suspect Zero.”
