Five Questions With Jackie Lee

Country singer Jackie Lee’s career is taking off quickly. It was only in 2014 that he debuted a single called “She Does” to rave reviews. Lately he’s had notable achievements like his current single, “Getting Over You,” surpassing 16 million streams on Spotify. The song has been called his “breakout hit” and “a turning point in Lee’s career.”

Last week, at the Grand Ole Opry House, he premiered “Long Year,” a tribute to his mom who passed away last June.

Lee’s been on the road since March, first with Dan+Shay, then onto the summer fair/festival circuit. He even found a way to drop by Pollstar, accompanied by his record company reps at the time (he recently parted ways with Broken Bow), and played a few tunes for us. He was also proclaimed “country music’s sexiest new singer” by Rare Country.

Next up is an appearance at the Winnebago Country Fair in Oshkosh, Wis., followed by a few nights with Bobby Bones & The Raging Idiots.

Lee recently answered a few questions for us via email in between shows.

Thanks for visiting the office. You appeared to have a lot of energy. Was it all coffee, exercise, sleep? Does touring take a lot out of ya?

Just happy to be alive! Touring sometimes does get tiresome, but it will never compare to having to dig a ditch for my job. I’m just so happy I get to play music.

You’ve played a lot of gigs this year. Any highlights (other than Grand Ole Opry)? Any good venues or crowds or food?

The Dan + Shay tour was so amazing! So many wonderful experiences. I think my fav city was Seattle! I love their culture.

Any bumps along the way that you’d rather not revisit?

Not eating enough VooDoo doughnuts in Portland.

We were first introduced to you by a photo sent in from Rob Beckham of you playing a “steps” lunchtime concert at the new WME digs in Nashville. What was that like?

Rob treats me so good. The WME office in Nashville is amazing and getting to be one of the first artists to play that stage was an honor.

What’s the next step? What is planned for the fall and winter?

I wanna tour my butt off into the fall and winter. I’m also looking forward to see what other doors “Getting Over You” can open. The next step is my left foot I believe. 😉
