Philips Arena Upgrade
A nearly $193 million renovation of the 17,700-capacity
Philips Arena – Philips Arena
Plans were filed April 27 for the first phase of the project. According to the permit, the work would include the interior demolition of 100,000 square feet and the interior renovation of luxury boxes.
Atlanta Hawks spokesman Garin Narain told the Atlanta Business Journal that plans were submitted for the renovation, but no other details.
City officials announced last November that they reached a deal with the NBA’s Hawks to extend the team’s lease through 2046.
The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream also calls the arena home.
The city will put $142.5 million toward the project, and the Hawks $50 million, the Journal said. The project will add new amenities including connected concourses at all levels, improved sight lines and state-of-the-art video.
The work is expected to begin this summer and be completed by the start of the 2018-2019 season.
