Colston Hall holds some 2,000 people. As part of the redevelopment, the cellar space will be transformed into a new venue, which will increase capacity by up to 25 percent.

The main auditorium will receive a larger stage, new canopy, balconies and seats, a fore-stage lift and new wall finishes, among other things.
The plan is to turn it into a modern concert hall while retaining the Victorian charm. Bristol Music Trust (BMT), which runs the hall, has raised just over £30 million so far. Finding sponsorship opportunities is “key to helping us reach our total,” said BMT chief executive Louise Mitchell. “The new name could include recognition of a commercial partner, but we will be consulting with audiences and other stakeholders during the closure period,” she continued.
“This overall rebrand is part of transforming the Colston Hall we have today into the new National Centre for Music Entertainment, Education and Enterprise.”
Redevelopment work is due to begin in 2018, with the reopening scheduled for 2020.
