During fiscal 2016 (April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017), the Osaka-based theme park saw 14.6 million visitors, or about 700,000 more than the number that visited in fiscal 2015.
The park’s operator credited the increase to “new attractions and events to celebrate the 15th anniversary” of USJ. At the same time, Oriental Land Co., the operator of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, reported that the combined attendance for its two parks during the same period was off 0.6 percent from the year before, the second year in a row that visitor numbers has dropped.
However, even with the decline, the Disney parks still tower above USJ in terms of popularity. Attendance was 30 million.
