Manchester Club Claims ‘No Structural Issues’ After Ceiling Collapse
Clubgoers in Manchester, England, were filmed supporting a large chunk of plasterboard that had come off the roof of The Factory, also known as FAC251, early Sunday, Feb. 12.
The collapsing ceiling caused LED lights to smash and rain glass onto the crowd. According to FAC251’s official statement and social media comments, it wasn’t the first time the ceiling on the club’s first floor came down.
“A section of plasterboard came loose from the first floor, at this stage we are uncertain how or why – no one was hurt & the club was evacuated purely as a precaution,” the statement reads. “There is no structural issue so we now need to investigate with contractors how this re-occurred, this issue relates to the first floor only. Ground & second floors will open as normal on Monday while we investigate the first floor issue.”
FAC251 is not to be mistaken with a new club called Factory that is to open in Manchester in 2020.
