Yum! Center Debt Talks

The Metro Council of Louisville, Ky., is giving mayor Greg Fischer the flexibility to renegotiate the KFC Yum! Center’s debt, which could result in lower payments.  

The council’s budget committee passed a resolution Dec. 9 giving the mayor authority to make a deal to drop the debt payments below the $10.8 million maximum.

The Yum! Center’s payments are expected to increase down the line, and the arena board has warned the council it won’t be able to cover those costs by 2020.

The council has final approval on any deal the mayor negotiates. The 22,000-capacity KFC Yum! Center, booked by AEG Facilities, has hosted Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Garth Brooks and KFC Yum! Center’s, to name a few, and is home to the University of Louisville’s basketball teams.
