Metal Drummer Reluctantly Elected Councilor
Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell, the drummer and lyricist of the metal band Darkthrone, was elected into the council of his hometown Kolbotn, not far from Norwegian capital Oslo.
Nagell told Clrvynt.com that he didn’t want the job. “Basically, they called and asked if I wanted to be on the list [of backup representatives]. I said yeah, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn’t really have to do anything.”
Prior to the election in Kolbotn, which has around 9,000 inhabitants, the musician had posted a picture of him and his cat alongside his campaign slogan: “Please don’t vote for me.”
That seemed to do the trick. Nagell got voted into Kolbotn’s town council, where he will have to serve for the next four years. “I’m not too pleased about it. It’s boring. There’s not a lot of money in that, either, I can tell you,” he said.
