Two Dead At UK Festivals

Leeds Festival and Creamfields are both lamenting the deaths of two young festivalgoers.

Lewis Haunch, 17, collapsed after taking a substance at Leeds Festival, Saturday, Aug. 27, according to police. He was taken to hospital immediately died shortly after midnight. West Yorkshire police issued a drug warning after the incident.

They arrested two also 17-year-old males on suspicion of drug offenses. In total, 58 arrests were made at Leeds Festival, most of which were drug related. Haunch’s passing overshadows a successful edition, which saw some 60,000 people attend per day.

Chief Superintendent Keith Gilert of West Yorkshire police commented: “Overall, I believe that Leeds Festival continues to be a great example of what the right level of policing resources and good partnership working can achieve.”

At Creamfields in Cheshire, Joe Sheppard, died Aug. 26. “We are awaiting the results of the post mortem examination to establish the cause of death,” a statement on Cheshire police’s website reads.
