Elvis Costello And The Imposters Tack On Fall Dates
The new dates pick right up from the previously announced shows, from Atlantic City on Oct. 22 to New York Nov. 6. Those gigs follow his “Detour” solo shows which begins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Oct. 3, and does not include The Imposters.
The band includes bassist Davey Faragher and two members of Costello’s original group, the Attractions, Pete Thomas on drums and Steve Nieve on keyboards.
The shows with his band are mostly on the East Coast, with a few stops in the Midwest and one TBA set for Oct. 26.
The shows will revolve around Costello’s 1982 album Imperial Bedroom with other “songs that led in and out of that velvet-trimmed playhouse.”
Recent performances have garnered praise from local media outlets, with the Liverpool Echo saying the band tears through 30 songs in its set with “remarkable” energy and musicianship.
The ever-spectacled Costello has been a presence in music since his debut album was released in 1977. It was that year when he famously got himself banned from “Saturday Night Live” for playing “Radio Radio,” a critique of popular radio and the music industry that the show’s producers had warned him to forgo.
Costello was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016. His response? “I am probably the least commercially successful songwriter to be inducted.”
Here is the plan with the Imposters. Keep in mind that his U.S. dates prior to this do not include the band.
