Fort Wayne Wants Metal Detectors
Officials with Fort Wayne’s 13,000-seat Memorial Coliseum say they want to buy metal detectors and scanning wands to increase security.
The (Fort Wayne) Journal Gazette reports that Memorial Coliseum vice president for event services Michele Remenschneider asked its board of directors Thursday for authorization to buy the equipment.
The security equipment could be in use by the end of the year. The board unanimously approved asking the Allen County Council for up to $50,000 to buy it.
Remenschneider says more promoters are requiring metal detectors and so far the facility has rented them and hired workers to operate them. She says having the equipment on site could be an advantage for booking events. She says the security measures would only be taken when sponsors request them.
