That means with still 24 days to go until the end of the 2015 fiscal year, the theme park racked up higher attendance numbers than ever before in a single year.

The park’s miracle year actually started in July 2014 with the opening of the new $444 million Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction. It has since rapidly come up with other pop culture-related attractions featuring the Minions from “Despicable Me,” Snoopy, Japanese figures like Hello Kitty and even pop music idol Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. Comcast’s NBC Universal bought the park in September for $1.5 billion, and the American media company has sunk a lot of money into the venture.

It has definitely paid off with another record. Last year more than 1 million of the park’s visitors were from overseas.

Thanks to the relatively low yen and higher incomes of Chinese travelers, Japan is enjoying a huge influx of foreign tourists.

A USJ spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter, “Around 10 percent of our guests now come from abroad, mostly Asia. This is the first year that foreign visitors topped the million mark.”

Final attendance for the year is expected to be around 14 million thanks to a series of 15th anniversary events that will start March 18. Some Japanese media have reported that USJ is planning to open a Nintendo-related attraction sometime in the future.
