Taylor Swift Calls Off 2020 Touring

Taylor Swift called off all her 2020 touring on Friday.

Taylor Swift announced Friday that she will not perform any of her previously scheduled 2020 dates due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“With many events throughout the world already cancelled, and upon direction from health officials in an effort to keep fans safe and help prevent the spread of COVID-19, sadly this decision has been made to cancel all Taylor Swift live appearances and performances this year,” Swift wrote in a statement.

While Swift’s June and July European festival dates seem to have been canceled entirely, it’s not all doom and gloom for fans of the pop star.

“The U.S. and Brazil shows will be rescheduled to take place in 2021, with dates to be announced later this year,” the statement continued. “Tickets held for each of those shows will transfer to a new show date without action on the part of ticket holders.”

Swift had six shows booked in the U.S. and Brazil: Two nights at São Paulo’s Allianz Parque (originally scheduled for July 18-19), two Lover Fest West dates at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. (July 25-26) and two Lover Fest East dates at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. (July 31-August 1).

Swift’s SoFi Stadium dates were planned as the opening events for the new Southern California venue. Though California’s live music future is uncertain, the next scheduled concert at SoFi Stadium – which would become the venue’s opening by default – is Swift’s Messina Touring Group peer Kenny Chesney on August 1.

Ticket holders for U.S. Lover Fest dates will be able to request refunds via Ticketmaster beginning May 1.

Swift has been among the live industry’s most bankable performers since she released her debut album in 2006. Though Swift largely stayed off the road in 2019, she released her seventh studio album, Lover, which hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s albums chart, was certified double-platinum and catapulted two singles, “Me!” and “You Need to Calm Down,” to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2018, the most recent year she toured widely, Swift ranked No. 2 on Pollstar‘s Year End Top 100 Worldwide Tours chart, with $345.1 million grossed. Swift ranked No. 4 on Pollstar’s Top Touring Artists of the Decade list, with $899.6 million grossed.

“I’m so sad I won’t be able to see you guys in concert this year, but I know this is the right decision,” Swift wrote on social media. “Please, please stay healthy and safe. I’ll see you on stage as soon as I can but right now what’s important is committing to this quarantine, for the sake of all of us.”
