A Bowie Celebration Announces Lineup Featuring Def Leppard, Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon and John Taylor

Def Leppard, Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon and John Taylor, Living Colour, Evan Rachel Wood, Walk the Moon and more will be joining together for A Bowie Celebration on Jan. 8, which would have been David Bowie’s 75th birthday. This year’s event will be dedicated to Mick Rock, Bowie’s former photographer who had passed away on Nov. 18.

Along with appearances from a variety of artists, the event will host a virtual Q&A from Bowie’s former bandmates including Mike Garson, Earl Slick, Charlie Sexton, Alan Childs, Steve Elson, Mark Guiliana, Omar Hakim, Stan Harrison, Tim Lefebvre, Gerry Leonard, and Carmine Rojas.

“It’s an honor to be able to continue to share David Bowie’s music with the world,” Garson said in a press release. “I’m excited for everyone to be able to experience this very special show we’ve got in store in celebration of what would have been David’s 75th birthday with the bandmates he recorded and performed with, plus a great group of guest artists who he was such an influence to.” 

A Bowie Celebration will also celebrate the 35th anniversary of Bowie’s film, Labyrinth. 

The event will be livestreamed via RollingLiveStudios.com and will be available on the site for 24 hours. A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated toward the Save the Children organization. Bowie had been a proponent of Save the Children throughout his lifetime, and the funds raised from his 50th Birthday Concert at Madison Square Garden in 1997 were donated to the organization. 

Last year’s event saw performances from the likes of Duran Duran, Ian Astbury, Anna Calvi, Perry Farrel, Adam Lambert, Trent Reznor, Gavin Rossdale, Yungblud, and Peter Frampton. Prior to last year’s live stream event, Bowie’s former band members went on tour as A Bowie Celebration to honor the late artist. Their January 2020 performance at De Roma in Borgerhout, Belgium, grossed $70,490, according to reports submitted to Pollstar‘s Boxoffice, while a May 2019 performance at ABS Theatre in Auckland, New Zealand, grossed $94,233.
