George Strait, Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus Top Austin City Limits Bill

Austin City Limits announced the lineup for its 2021 event, slated for the first two weekends of October, on Thursday – and it’s topped by one of the most eclectic headlining slates of any festival this year.

Texan country legend George Strait will headline this year’s Austin City Limits, along with Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Rüfüs Du Sol, DaBaby and Erykah Badu. Notably, all seven artists will perform at both weekends of the festival, scheduled for Oct. 1-3 and Oct. 8-10.

Other top talent booked for both weekends of the event include Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Machine Gun Kelly, Black Pumas, Greta Van Fleet, Modest Mouse, Phoebe Bridgers, Jack Harlow, Band of Horses, Jon Pardi, Bleachers, Marc Rebillet, Future Islands and Polo G.

Some artists will only appear on one of Austin City Limits’ two weekends, such as St. Vincent and Chet Faker (first weekend) and Madeon and Jon Batiste (second weekend).

The event also shares plenty of talent with the 2021 iterations of Chicago’s Lollapalooza and Tennessee’s Bonnaroo, two other major festivals staged by Austin City Limits promoter C3 Presents. Cyrus, DaBaby and Modest Mouse will perform at Lollapalooza, which is scheduled for July 29 to Aug. 1 and announced its lineup on Wednesday, and Bridgers and Batiste will play Bonnaroo, announced in March and slated for Sept. 2-5. Megan Thee Stallion and Harlow will play Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits.

Outside of the Strait booking, Austin City Limits’ headline slate sports some familiar faces from elsewhere in the festival world. Five of its seven headliners top the bill of at least one other 2021 festival: Eilish (Life Is Beautiful, Governors Ball, Firefly), Nicks (BottleRock), Cyrus (Lollapalooza), Rüfüs Du Sol (Outside Lands) and Erykah Badu (Pitchfork). (Rüfüs Du Sol and DaBaby are both booked for Governors Ball, but not as headliners.)

Unlike festivals such as Bonnaroo and Governors Ball, which this year have moved to the fall from traditional summer homes, Austin City Limits will occur on its typical early October dates in 2021.

In 2019, the last year Austin City Limits took place, the festival was headlined by Guns N’ Roses, Mumford & Sons, Childish Gambino, The Cure, Cardi B, Eilish, Tame Impala and Robyn. Like many other festivals, Austin City Limits went virtual in 2020.

“For us, it’s maintaining our identity and not losing focus of what our core roots are, for the festival and the brand,” C3’s Amy Corbin, who appeared on Pollstar‘s Women of Live list in 2020 and 2021, told Pollstar in a 2018 interview.

“We have been working on festivals and projects that we had underway prior to the pandemic, gearing up for a lot of festivals and concerts in the pipeline for the end of 2021 and into 2022,” said C3 Presents co-founder Charles Attal in an interview for this year’s Impact 50 list, which he and fellow C3 co-founder Charlie Walker were named to earlier this month.
