Artists Arise To #StopAsianHate

In response to anti-Asian violence in the U.S. over the last several weeks and the heinous shooting of eight people (including six Asian women) at three Atlanta-area spas on March 16, the hashtags #StopAsianHate and #StopAAPIHate have been circulating on social media sites and artists have been leading the charge in promoting awareness and taking action in combating this hate.
American K-Pop star Eric Nam – who was born and raised in Atlanta – recently appeared on CNN speaking about the escalating prejudice Asians and Asian-Americans have been experiencing in the U.S.

“I think, if anything over the past year, we have been the loudest we have ever been. We have been asking for allies to fight with us and stand with us. Unfortunately all the warning signs went unnoticed and fell on deaf ears. It took an incredibly tragic and horrific event to hit international news in a targeted way. It’s really heartbreaking and I wish this could have been done in a better way, but this is where we are right now,” Nam said.
Numerous artists, including Manila Killa, AleXa, and CL have promoted awareness of the #StopAsianHate fund and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum in light of the events of March 16.
Rich Brian posted links to Anti-Asian violence resources on his Twitter, requesting donations.
Artists TOKiMONSTA, MILCK, and BohanPhoenix joined with the United Asian Alliance and Hate Is A Virus to host a chat + fundraiser on the platform Clubhouse on March 15, the day before the shooting actually took place.
Other parts of the entertainment industry have also rallied around the cause to stop #StopAsianHate, including actress Sandra Oh, who led a rally in Oakland on March 20.
