Andra Day
Bassline Management’s Jeffrey Evans told Pollstar that Day’s talent and passion for her craft and life in general was, and is, inspiring.
“Andra was one of the first artists my partner Adrian Gurvitz and I signed at Buskin Records. Stevie Wonder’s then-wife Kai played us a clip of Andra she had on her iPhone,” Evans said. “Adrian and I were mesmerized by the tone and raw emotion Andra sings with. Her raw talent and incredible passion seemed obvious to both of us as something the world wants and needs.”
That passion has earned Day many opportunities including touring with Lenny Kravitz, performances at the White House and the Grammy Awards, and a Christmas-themed commercial for Apple featuring a duet by Wonder and Day.
Her 2015 debut album, Cheers To The Fall, and the single “Rise Up” each earned Grammy nominations for best R&B album and best R&B performance.
“She is a generational talent and an artist whose passion for truth supersedes the need for fame. I think that is part of what draws so many people to her. She is a vulnerable human who is not afraid to look at and talk about her own flaws as well as her successes,” Evans said. “Rarely have I heard the near perfection of her voice with such a unique tone.
“But what really draws people to her is the message she is delivering and the spirit she brings with her every day. She walks and performs with an energy that everyone around her can feel.”
Day is touring Europe and the U.S. through summer, followed by potential Japan and Korea dates and another European and U.S. trek.
