Capitol Set For Abbey Road?
Universal Music Group is looking to set up the UK division of Capitol Records in the world-famous studios in London’s Abbey Road, according to The Sunday Times.
In an interview with Universal head Lucian Grainge, the paper learned that the move could be part of his plan to realign the labels that his company bought in its $1.9 billion takeover of EMI.
It says that this week Grainge will pool many of his new British labels into a new company, to be called Virgin EMI, and will “commit millions of pounds to signing unknown acts.”
Grainge told the paper that he sees “an opportunity to grow this company and to take all that is best in EMI and Virgin and Capitol and add to it.”
“Imagine if we could recreate Capitol and put it into Abbey Road,” he said in a full-page feature in the Sunday Times business section, which detailed Grainge’s rise from talent scout to running the world’s biggest music company.
