LN’s Schueremans Quits Politics

Live Nation Belgium chief Herman Schueremans has resigned from his position in the Flemish parliament and quit politics.

He told Pollstar he made the decision Dec. 31 while on a family holiday in South Africa and had stood down by the end of the following day.

“I was taking a break and enjoying myself and I decided that I couldn’t go back,” he said.

In his letter of resignation, Schueremans  – who just received the European Festival Awards’ lifetime achievement award – told his Vlaamse Liberalen & Democraten party chairman that he wants to concentrate on being a promoter. He’s just extended his contract with Live Nation for another four years.

Schueremans, who was elected to the Flemish parliament in 2004, has used his political position as a platform to fight ticket touts in Belgium. The national parliament will soon be discussing his proposal to cap the profit on resold tickets to 10 percent of face value.
