As we close the books on Q3 it seems the 2012 concert industry is looking much like last year.
Business is not spectacular but, for those promoters and artist reps who moderated their risks, it appears like it will be another solid year.
Global tickets sold for the Top 100 Tours hit 37.2 million through Q3 which is nearly identical to last year’s 37.1 million.
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band are the global ticket sales leaders with more than 2 million sold and 20 arena shows left on the itinerary. Coldplay is in the final stages of its most successful tour ever with nearly 1.7 million tickets sold and five more huge stadium dates in Australia and New Zealand to go.
AEG Live is in second position among promoters with nearly 6.7 million tickets. That is down from last year’s 9.6 million when the company had the Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry tours to bolster its volume.
The
Top 100 Promoters reported a combined 61.8 million tickets sold which is essentially flat compared to 61.2 million a year ago. The
Top 100 Nightclubs showed a 2 percent increase with 5.2 million tickets, while the
Top 100 Theatres posted a 9.7 percent ncrease to 11.3 million tickets.
The
Top 100 Arenas saw a 5 percent drop to 20.3 million tickets but we expect that gap to narrow given the high profile arena tours still out on the road. Given the increases in
Pollstar‘s global reporting network, the Top Arenas chart for Q3 has expanded to 200 positions as it will be when we issue the full year report. It’s not too late for any promoter or venue to report their missing shows in time to be included in our comprehensive 2012 Year End Special Edition.
