Werchter Adds Another Stage
Having won the European Festival Award for best lineup twice in the last three years, Belgium’s Rock Werchter is adding a third stage to accommodate all the talent on display.
A competition to name the new stage, which will sit alongside the Main Stage and the Pyramid Stage, closed Feb. 1. The result is expected within the next couple of weeks.
Festival chief Herman Schueremans says the third stage, like the second, will be in a marquee and will be focused on “launching more new acts and building our own headliners for the future.”
Each year Werchter, which two years ago also won the “artists’ favourite” European Festival Award, attracts the biggest acts on the summer circuit and blends them with a mix of the world’s best emerging talent.
This year it was also the only mainland European festival to make the shortlist for the vote for Pollstar’s International Music Festival of the Year.
The Rock Werchter lineup for June 28 to July 1 includes Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure, and Florence & The Machine.
