Scorpio’s Indian Summer

FKP Scorpio has moved into the Dutch market by buying into a festival and partnering with Utrecht-based concert booking agency Friendly Fire.

The Hamburg-based promoter, which has in the last year expanded its festival business in Sweden and Denmark, has bought a share in the Indian Summer Festival at Broek op Langedijk.

The aim is to build the 12-year-old, 30,000-capacity festival to the point that it can rival such major Dutch outdoors as Pinkpop and Lowlands.

At press time, the details of the Indian Summer deal hadn’t been made public beyond the fact Scorpio has acquired the stake previously owned by event management company ID & T.

Acquiring a stake in Friendly Fire, a concert promoter and artist management company known for its work with acts including Wiz Khalifa, Frank Turner, Milow, Lykke Li, and Lana Del Rey, means Scorpio can now handle an artist’s tours through Sweden, Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands.

Scorpio chief Folkert Koopmans, who was born in The Netherlands, says the two deals will establish his company’s base in the territory.
